The use of breast implants enables Dr. Richards to reconstruct breasts that look and feel extremely natural, match the unique physique and frame of each woman, and meet each patient’s specific aesthetic goals. Implant choices include:

In some cases, tissue expanders may be required in advance of the implant-based reconstruction in order to re-build sufficient natural breast tissue to hold the implant in place. The use of tissue expanders is a multi-stage process: first, the tissue expander is positioned in place to act as a temporary spacer, then filled as much as possible without damaging existing incisions. Over the course of several weeks, the remaining natural breast tissue stretches and expands; the expander can be filled multiple times during this process if larger breasts are desired. Finally, the tissue expander is replaced with the desired implant.
Delayed breast reconstruction can be performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. Because the procedure and recovery are both highly unique to each individual patient, details relating to both pre-operative preparation and post-operative care will be provided to each patient during the pre-operative consultation.
